The Pharmacological Sociey (Singapore) [PSS] congratulates A\/Prof Gautam Sethi on winning the inaugural PSS Award. The award was presented during the closing ceremony of the International Conference on Scientific Frontiers in Natural Product Based Drugs 2017 (SFNPBD 2017) on 7 July 2017. A\/Prof Fred Wong, President of the PSS and Head of Department, Department of Pharmacology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), read the citation. The award was presented by Professor Michael Spedding, Secretary General of the International Union of Basic and Clincial Pharmacology (IUPHAR).<\/p>\n
A\/Prof Gautam Sethi from the Department of Pharmacology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, was honoured with the inaugural PSS Award for excellence in pharmacology research for his prolific and outstanding contributions to the field of cancer pharmacology. After completion of his postdoctoral training at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr Gautam Sethi joined Department of Pharmacology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, in 2008 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2015.\u00a0 The focus of his research over the past few years has been to elucidate the mechanism(s) of activation of oncogenic transcription factors by carcinogens and inflammatory agents and the identification of novel pharmacological agents targeting these proteins for prevention of and therapy for cancer. His group has identified numerous small molecules that can suppress various pro-tumorigenic signalling cascades involved in cancer initiation and promotion. The findings of his research work have so far resulted in more than 125 publications from NUS \u00a0in international peer-reviewed journals (with h index = 69) and several national as well as international awards, including the NUHS Faculty Research Excellence Award and The Excellent and Active Collaboration\u2013Visiting Fellowship by Curtin University. He currently serves as an Academic Editor for PLOS, editorial board member of Scientific Reports, Pharmacological Research, Frontiers in Pharmacology, Frontiers in Oncology, BMC Cancer, and ad-hoc reviewer for several prestigious international journals.
