PSS Annual Letter and AGM

Dear PSS Members,

Wishing our PSS members a joyful Lunar New Year and success in the Year of the Dragon. We look forward to your continued participation in upcoming PSS events.

PSS Highlights for the Year 2023:

  1. PSS called for the 2023 PSS Travel Awards. The travel award was awarded to Ms Phyllis Gan for attending the International Conference on Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine (ICDDTM), 4-8 December 2023, in Malaysia.
  2. PSS supported the Drug Repurposing and Precision Medicine meeting held on 20 March 2023 at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM, Malaysia. Professor Fred Wong delivered a talk on “Repurposing of artesunate for the treatment of asthma” at the meeting.
  3. PSS promoted the IUPHAR Natural Products Section 1st International Development Forum on Pharmacology of Natural Products and Traditional Medicines held online on 14 April 2023.
  4. PSS supported the IUPHAR Natural Products Section 2nd International Development Forum on Pharmacology of Natural Products and Traditional Medicines held online on 15 June 2023. Professor Fred Wong co-moderated the session.
  5. PSS supported the organization of the 17th Meeting of the Asian-Pacific Society for Neurochemistry (APSN) held 19-21 June 2023 in Singapore.
  6. PSS organized seminars by Professor Bian Jinsong, speaking on “Na+/K+-ATPase: a novel therapeutic target for diseases?” on 30 June 2023; and Professor Albert Pinhasov, speaking on “From stress vulnerability and maternal care to epigenetic programming, inflammation, and metabolic changes?” on 26 July 2023.
  7. PSS supported the organization of the 19th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (WCP2023) held on 2-7 July 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. Associate Professor Gavin Dawe organized a symposium on “Advances in the pharmacology of relaxin-3 and related peptides” at WCP2023.
  8. PSS co-organized the Annual Meeting of International Society of Organoid Research (ISoOR) held on 7-8 August 2023 in Singapore. Associate Professor Wang Lingzhi was a moderator and speaker at the meeting.
  9. PSS Neuropsychopharmacology Section (PSS-NPS) supported the organization of the 8th Congress of the Asian College of Neuropsychopharmacology (AsCNP) held on 21-23 September 2023 in Xi’An, China. Associate Professor Gavin Dawe delivered a Conference Laureate Presentation on “Advances in neuropsychopharmacology of anxiety and affective disorders”.
  10. PSS supported the IUPHAR Early Career Researchers Section. Dr Peh Hong Yong served as a member of the IUPHAR Early Career Researchers Subcommittee.
  11. PSS supported the IUPHAR Natural Products Section. Professor Fred Wong served as a member of the Natural Products Section.
  12. PSS supported the IUPHAR Pharmacology Education Project (IUPHAR-PEP) and the IUPHAR Education Section (IUPHAR-Ed). Associate Professor Gavin Dawe served as a member of the Editorial Board and content contributor for IUPHAR-PEP and as a member of IUPHAR-Ed.

PSS Planned Activities in the Year 2024:

  1. PSS Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on February 28, 2024 (Wednesday) 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM at MD3-02-01, 16 Medical Drive, Singapore 117600. Lunch will be provided afterwards.
  2. PSS will organize a Graduate’s Academic Progress in Pharmacology (GAPP) Meeting jointly with the Department of Pharmacology, National University of Singapore, to be held February 28, 2024 (Wednesday) 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM at MD3-02-01, 16 Medical Drive, Singapore 117600.
  3. PSS Excellence Awards in Pharmacology Education and Research will be awarded.
  4. PSS Student Conference/Travel Scholarship 2024 will be announced.
  5. PSS will promote the 35th World Congress Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum to be held on 23-26 May 2024 in Tokyo, Japan.
  6. PSS will promote the Asia Pacific Federation of Pharmacologists (APFP) 2024 meeting to be held on 1-4 December 2024 in Melbourne, Australia.
  7. PSS will support the IUPHAR Pharmacology Education Project, the IUPHAR Education Section (IUPHAR-Ed) and the IUPHAR Early Career Researchers Section. PSS will support the organization of online workshops to create resources for core concepts in pharmacology to be held on 12 March 2024.
